Your pledges to walk more
Last week, we asked you to tell us how you'll keep on walking more after the Step Count Challenge has ended. Read some of the best pledges we received below, and get inspired to make your own pledge to keep on moving more.
The winning pledge was sent in by Alex, from team Step Development, who has committed to a change in mindset.
I pledge my allegiance to the step, to stay active and to further spread the idea, ethos and benefits of having an active mindset. I pledge to, every day, try to make time for getting out of the office on a walk and out of a chair. And I pledge to try and get others out and about, to show them the data and way, to get them to also spread the ideas untill everyone is just a little bit healthier and happier.
Emma, from team Walk Ness Monsters 2025, won a runner-up prize with a specific set of actions she intends to take.
Calendar breaks for walking included. Setting alarm 30 mins earlier to do exercise. Agreeing to meet a friend at Parkrun.
Catherine, also from team Walk Ness Monsters 2025, won a runner up prize for pledging to keep the team spirit going.
My team and I are hoping to keep the daily step challenge going. I will keep up the motivational tips and pics of the beautiful walks I go on with my 4.5 year old lab. Our WhatsApp chat is the perfect place to share these.
Emma, from team Blister Sisters, pledged to keep on walking to boost her wellbeing and help the planet too.
I pledge to keep up the momentum from the Step Count Challenge—not just for my health, but for the planet. By walking instead of driving short distances, taking active breaks, and exploring my local area on foot, I’ll reduce my carbon footprint and support my wellbeing.
Anna, from team Central Library, intends to keep active with a daily swim, and long walks with her dog in the evening.
I'm slightly addicted to my step count, so I'd definitely continue with keeping active by doing my daily 1000m swim in the local pool, 5km cycle to work, and long walks with my dog in the evening. Good audiobook and extra fresh air before going to bed to keep me physically and mentally fit.
Meanwhile, Aynslie, from team Psychology Steppers, pledged to not make any excuses!
Knowing I can do 10,000 steps in a working day means keeping up those habits and no excuses!
A big thank you to everyone who took part in last week's competition.
