Meet the walkers: team NOJV Allstars
Team NOJV Allstars* from Ithaca Energy stepped up during this year's spring Step Count Challenge, coming in second place on the leader board. Read on to hear how a bit of friendly competition with another team kept them motivated to move more.
With short nights and “summer” weather over the months of April to June the Step Count Challenge provides a great excuse to get outside and enjoy exercise in our beautiful part of the world.
Our department fielded 3 teams this year with the NOJV Allstars* team taking the opportunity a bit more seriously than others. The team of five (Tony, Will, Andy, Matt and Mark) built on last years' experience of a consistent approach to the challenge, not starting too fast but trying to keep a constantly high step rate. Most of the exercise was in the form of walking with occasional biking and running by a few members.
We managed to accommodate holidays, work travel, trips to a very hot shipyard in Dubai, a bout of COVID, sailing trips, bothy trips, fast driving, long distance walks, Tartan army heartbreak and several Munro’s while we accumulated steps.
Early on in the challenge it became apparent that the Subsea Steppers team (also from Ithaca Energy) presented a real challenge for the top place in the company. This provided an ever increasing motivation across the 8 weeks leading to the team clocking an amazing 7,422,180 steps just 180,000 ahead of the Subsea Steppers. Finishing second in the overall challenge was a bonus as we achieved the goal of retaining top spot in Ithaca adding a second star to the team name.
It’s fair to say the team enjoyed the challenge, internal competition and the opportunity to get outside in the “summer”.
