Meet the walkers: Team Airdrie Town Hall Chumps

Team Airdrie Town Hall Chumps came in second place in this year's autumn Step Count Challenge. We asked the team to share how they keep active during the working day, and what they enjoy about taking part in the challenge.

We’re a mixture of technicians, customer services, catering, and venue attendants, all based at Airdrie Town Hall and covering Bellshill Culture Centre and Ravenscraig Sports Centre Pantomime. The Step Count Challenge is always welcome; we love getting involved. It gives us a good excuse to up the step count at work. Planning and operating events and gigs involve lots of moving around of resources and equipment, so we are all normally quite active. Clocking up to 20,000 steps a day at work is not unusual.

The team is active after work individually. Andy is a walking master and loves the challenge, Kev is a Karate instructor and fitness fanatic, reliable as ever, and new addition John the Chef has been a revelation with a massive step count. Laura keeps us all motivated as captain and chief night out organiser, and Stevy uses every Step Count Challenge to buy new boots and do countless laps of Drumpellier Loch! It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to do a big team walk together, but the nature of our jobs makes timing rather difficult. Next time out we aim to get the Clyde Walkway done as a team.

The Step Count Challenge is a great motivator and highly recommended. You’ve just got to push on and do as well as you can, and you’ll feel good about it. Finishing 2nd is our highest placing, so, after many attempts it’s good to see our team up there. We might even get a second team up and running.
