I work within the Alumni and Development Department at the University of Strathclyde and we have been proud participants in 5 Paths For all Step Challenges in recent years. I have always been keen to involve as many of my colleagues as possible, especially those who may be newer to the team as I think it is an excellent opportunity to get involved in a fun challenge with colleagues.

On a personal level I like to stay active, whether that be through daily walks, weekly park runs or tennis lessons so I find the Step Count Challenge a great way to encourage me to stay active throughout the year and be mindful of my activity levels – especially in the winter months!

For the most part, my job is desk-based so I do have to motivate myself to head out for pre-work walks or nip out at lunchtime and the Step Count Challenge and my teammates encourage me to get out there, particularly when I see I am in 5th place on the leaderboard!

My favourite type of walk would be a brisk walk along the beach. I am from Kinross shire so some of my favourite beaches are St Andrews, Aberdour and the East Neuk of Fife, but I have enjoyed some beach walks on the west coast as well!

A particular highlight of the challenges for me is putting together a video for our Instagram (@unistrathclydealumni), showcasing the team’s walking routes from the challenges.

I would encourage anyone to get their work colleagues involved – there is fun to be had and prizes to be won!
